WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham, introduced First Lady Michelle Obama at a Tuesday night fundraiser in Washington D.C.
"I want to start by thanking my dear, dear friend and everybody should know by now, Terri was my mentee in college . . . for her leadership, for her service and for taking the time to be here," Michelle Obama said. "She's doing a terrific job representing her state."
About 600 people paid between $100 and $1,000 per person for the event at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, according to the pool reporter who covered the event and sent details to other reporters. The event was for the benefit of the Obama Victory Fund.
Reporters were not in the room when Sewell spoke. Sewell and the First Lady were at Princeton University together.
