Spotted: Reps. Terri Sewell, Karen Bass, and Barbara Lee at the Selma-Montgomery March
On Sunday, thousands of people including Rep. Terri Sewell (D-AL), Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) arrived in arrived in Selma, Alabama to commemorate the civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery. They were joined by other officials like Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), Rep. Steny Hoyer, TV anchor Al Sharpton, and activist Jessie Jackson as they participated in the 19th annual reenactment of the ”Bloody Sunday” Selma to Montgomery civil rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. The march that occurred 47 years helped to propel the Voting Rights Act to passage. Other events for the commemoration included the official wreath ceremony at the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery (pictured below) and a Friday rally at the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church.
