New Year's Blessings from Nancy Gardner Sewell
Happy New Year to all and Happy Birthday to my wonderful daughter Terri!
In a few days, Coach and I will travel to Washington to see her sworn into the 113th Congress, and words cannot describe how proud we are to be her parents. I have known Terri was special since the day she was born, and being able to see her use her talents to serve the people of her home community is the best gift a mother could ever receive.
Growing up in Selma, Coach and I instilled in Terri the value of education, the importance of public service, and the power of prayer. Terri has not forgotten her roots, and I know that she's doing her best for us in Washington.
Terri's second term is off to a great start. She was chosen to serve on the exclusive Financial Services Committee and selected to be a part of the Democratic Leadership's Whip team. Terri has also been tapped to serve as Vice-Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and as a Co-Chair of its Business Council.
Terri has been such a blessing to our family, and I know that she will continue to work hard and fight for better opportunities and greater resources for us. Terri knows that those who have been blessed must be a blessing to others.
As we usher in the New Year, I want to thank all of you who played a role in making my daughter the woman she has become. Whether you taught her in elementary school, befriended her in college, mentored her as a young lawyer, or helped her get elected to Congress, we are sincerely grateful for your continued support.
Here's hoping that you have a blessed New Year! Please join me in wishing my daughter a Happy Birthday!
