BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham, will host a town hall meeting in Pratt City on Friday along with long-time U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, a Democrat from Los Angeles.

Sewell and Waters will host the event at the new Pratt City Library from 3-4:30 p.m., according to a news release today from Sewell's office.

The representatives will give attendees an update on activity in the U.S. Congress.

"As the highest ranking Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee and a 24-year veteran of Congress, Congresswoman Waters will provide a unique perspective on the financial recovery, the housing crisis, predatory lending and the partisan gridlock in Washington," Sewell said in the release.

Waters is serving her 12th term in the U.S. House of Representatives. She represents the California 43rd district, which includes a large part of South Central Los Angeles.

The town hall meeting is a part of Sewell's annual "Congress in Your Community" tour that began in February and includes stops in the 14 counties of the district.

The Pratt City Library is located at 509 Dugan Ave.
