U.S. Congresswoman Terri Sewell honors five of the state's basketball champions in Washington
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Some of the state's elite basketball teams got their share of pats on the back last week.
There was one additional salute that they might not have heard. It was on the congressional variety.
U.S. Congresswoman Terri Sewell recently honored several local state basketball champions on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. She saluted all the schools in her district that won Alabama High School Athletic Association state titles from the 7th Congressional District.
That's the Class 1A St. Jude boys, the Class 3A Midfield boys, the Class 4A Dallas County boys, the Class 5A Parker boys and the Class 5A Wenonah girls.
She had one minute to stump for the schools in her district. That's a lot of praise to spread around.
"No doubt that in the 7th Congressional District of Alabama we breed winners," Sewell said. "I plan to provide individual remarks about each school's victory so that each school is recognized in the Congressional record. For now I ask my colleagues in the House of Representatives to join me in congratulating and honoring the state of Alabama high school basketball champions from Alabama's 7th Congressional District. The district of high school basketball champions."
