Sewell is traveling with state Rep. A.J. McCampbell, D-Demopolis; Alabama Sen. Bobby Singleton, D-Greensboro; and former state Rep. James Fields, D-Cullman, who is now a candidate for lieutenant governor on the seven-county tour.
The stops precede the June 3 primary election, in which Sewell and McCampbell are facing opposition.
Sewell has been challenged by former Birmingham city attorney Tamara Harris Johnson for the Democratic nomination for Alabama's 7th Congressional district, a seat Sewell has held since 2010, and McCampbell — first elected in 2006 — is facing challenger Wesley J. Hodges for the Alabama House District 71 seat.
No Republicans qualified for either of these seats, meaning the primary ultimately could decide the winner.
Fields, who served two years in the state House of Representatives, is the only Democrat to qualify for the lieutenant governor's race, and he will face the winner of the Republican primary in the November general election.
Singleton is the only elected official on the tour who faces no opposition in either election.
